Punta Cana Safety & Laws for Groups
Punta Cana is a straightforward place to party if you plan the boring parts. This is the briefing we give every group before they arrive.
The short answer
Travel in pre-booked private vehicles, keep passports and most of your cash in the safe, agree every price before you commit, stay together after midnight, and never carry or buy drugs. These precautions do not eliminate risk or guarantee an incident-free trip.
Practical safety
Transport
- • Book private vans for every leg, especially the return from a club after 2am.
- • Never get into an unmarked car offered outside a venue.
- • Agree the fare before moving if you ever do take a street taxi.
- • Keep one person in the group with the driver's number and the return time.
Money and cash
- • Carry small amounts of cash and leave passports in the villa or hotel safe.
- • Confirm prices in USD or DOP before ordering — assumptions cost groups the most.
- • Use card where possible; check the amount on the terminal before you tap.
- • Beach vendors negotiate; the first price is rarely the price.
Drinks and health
- • Watch your own drink being poured, in every venue, every time.
- • Water and shade beat everything else on a boat day — heat, not alcohol, ends most of them early.
- • Assign one person per night who stays sober enough to make decisions for the group.
- • Bring any prescription medication in its original packaging.
Common scams
- • Unlicensed 'taxis' quoting a fare and demanding more on arrival.
- • Street excursion sellers taking a deposit for a boat that does not exist.
- • Rental buggies and jet skis with pre-existing damage charged to your group.
- • Bar tabs padded at the end of the night — check the itemised bill.

CESTUR / Tourist Police — the tourist police unit operates across Punta Cana and Bávaro and is the right first contact for visitor incidents.

Punta Party organises parties, entertainment and professional event hosting. Our companions and party hosts host, dance, run games and keep the atmosphere up. We do not offer, arrange or facilitate sexual services, and we decline bookings framed that way.

What are the drink and drug laws?
The legal drinking age is 18 and alcohol is widely available. Drug possession is treated seriously under Dominican law and penalties are severe. Do not carry or buy anything, regardless of what is offered to you on a beach or outside a club.
What is the legal position on adult entertainment and companions?
Punta Party organises parties, entertainment and social event hosting only. Our companions and party hosts are professionals who host, dance and keep the energy up. We do not arrange, sell or facilitate sexual services of any kind, and we will not take a booking framed that way.
Do we need permits for a private party?
Permission requirements depend on the location, event format and applicable rules. Confirm venue approval and any additional requirements with the relevant authority before booking. Private rental does not automatically authorize an event.
